WILSON -- Turnovers.
Four costly miscues, including two back-breaking mistakes in the third quarter, proved deadly for Charles B. Aycock on Friday evening. Wilson Beddingfield graciously capitalized on the errors and cruised 41-7 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference opener for both teams.
Trailing 14-7 after halftime, the Golden Falcons (1-5 overall) sealed their fate with a fumble. Beddingfield quarterback Lance Price easily converted the miscue into a 15-yard scoring strike to Tirease Vick.
Aycock fumbled the ensuing kickoff. Price, again, threw another touchdown -- a 23-yard pass to Vick. Within a 34-second span, the Bruins had grabbed a commanding 35-7 lead.
Price, a sophomore, completed 14 of 21 passes for 219 yards. His 9-yard scoring run provided Beddingfield's one-touchdown margin at halftime.
Vick hauled in five catches for 77 yards and recovered a fumble on defense.
Until Friday's collapse, the Golden Falcon defense had permitted but one touchdown in the last seven quarters of play. Beddingfield accumulated 424 yards of total offense on 58 plays.
The Bruins did commit three turnovers, but C.B. Aycock couldn't take advantage.
Tyheim Pitt emerged the Golden Falcons' lone bright spot on offense. The sophomore piled up 98 yards on 14 carries and accounted for his team's lone touchdown -- a 30-yard gallop in the second quarter. Alex Roosen's PAT created a 7-7 deadlock until Price's score later in the period.
Quarterback Zach Poole completed three passes, all to Jacob Pendleton, for 19 yards. Pendleton ranks among the area's top eight receivers after nine weeks of play.
C.B. Aycock (1-5 overall, 0-1 ECC) returns home Friday for a homecoming battle against Kinston. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Hardy Talton Stadium.
Meanwhile, Beddingfield plays its second straight contest against a Wayne County opponent. The Bruins (2-5, 1-0) are the guest of Southern Wayne.
