FRANKLINTON -- Victories are becoming contagious at Franklinton, and this time a homecoming crowd was on hand for the celebration.
For the second time in three weeks, the Red Rams prevailed -- this time with a 28-0 victory over winless Princeton. Franklinton improved to 2-4 overall with two setbacks coming overtime.
The Red Rams didn't need an extra session Friday as they sprinted ahead 14-0 at halftime before clinching the victory with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns.
Clark Martin got things going for Franklinton by finding the end zone on a 6-yard keeper with 8:03 remaining in the first quarter. Landon Vick's PAT boosted the score to 7-0.
Franklinton's defense forced a Princeton punt, and the Red Rams took over before encountering a third-and-9 situation.
That's when Brandon Harris took a handoff and raced away for an electrifying 64-yard touchdown that put Franklinton ahead 14-0.
The Red Rams scored again when Martin hooked up with Dustin Newton on a 13-yard strike with 8:09 left in the game. Erick Allen closed out the homecoming win with a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown with just 3:30 remaining.
Princeton (0-5 overall) concludes non-conference play at home next Friday against Mattamuskeet. The Red Rams open their Class 2-A Northern Carolina Conference schedule Oct. 5 at Roanoke Rapids.
