David Wilson and Cameron Ford contributed two goals each as Wayne Country Day shut out Rosewood 5-0 on Monday afternoon.

Wilson broke a scoreless tie with the first of his two goals in the 29th minute off a Matt Wolf assist. Wolf would follow five minutes later with his own goal from Albert Cho to give WCDS a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Ford got the Chargers going in the second half with back-to-back goals. Wilson capped the scoring with his second of the night. Overall, the Chargers out shot the Eagles 20-5.

WCDS improves to 5-3-1 overall and next travels to Parrott Academy on Thursday.

Aycock opens ECC play with win

WILSON -- Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Delgado teamed up to score in the first minute of the game and Charles B. Aycock would go on to defeat Wilson Beddingfield 5-2 in its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener.

With the score 1-0, Aycock's duo would team up again to make it 2-0 in the 15th minute when Rodriguez would find Delgado for the goal.

Alex Roosen and Tyson Pearson would later add first-half goals to put the Golden Falcons ahead 4-0.

Beddingfield made a run to open the second half with two quick goals, but a penalty kick by Aycock's Gavin Forrest would seal the win.

In goal, Aycock's Brandon Davis made four saves.

The Golden Falcons improve to 6-2-1 (1-0 ECC) and will next play Kinston on Wednesday.

Hawks begin EPC season with win

LaGRANGE -- Jaime Ellison scored twice to propel North Lenoir to a 2-1 win over Farmville Central in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference action on Monday.

Ellison tallied both of his goals before halftime -- the first coming in the 12th minute and the second in the 28th.

In goal, Bryce Grady recorded nine saves for North Lenoir who improved to 5-5-1 (1-0 EPC).

Goldsboro makes return to the field

TARBORO -- Fielding its first team in over a decade, Goldsboro made its return on Monday at Tarboro. The Vikings topped the Cougars 8-0.

Despite facing a plethora of shots, goalie Jesse Adam stood tall with a good performance for Goldsboro.

The Cougars 0-1 (0-1 Eastern Plains 2-A Conference) will next host Farmville Central on Sept. 24.

Volleyball

North Lenoir stays perfect

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir continued its perfect start with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-17 win over Rosewood on Monday evening.

The victory improves the Hawks to 11-0 overall.

Kayla Sutton tallied nine kills and three blocks while Marisa Lanier recorded eight kills and Jordan Hudson had five aces.

Ashley Williams led the Eagles with four kills and five digs while Jennifer Hall contributed eight digs, six assists and one ace.

North Lenoir will next host North Pitt today in its Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opener. Rosewood (3-6, 0-2) will host Spring Creek today.

Braswell aces Goldsboro

PRINCETON -- Ashley Braswell recorded eight aces to lead Princeton to a 25-13, 25-11, 25-11 victory over Goldsboro on Monday evening.

Amber Wood and Annamikel Bridgers both chipped in with five more aces each for the Bulldogs. Wood also contributed a team-high four kills and six assists.

Princeton will next travel to North Johnston today for a Carolina 1-A Conference match up.

Tennis

Rams dominate Greenfield Academy

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central had no trouble on Monday afternoon as they beat Greenfield Academy 9-0.

Top seeded Puja Patel dominated Elizabeth Cobb 6-0, 6-0 to lead the Rams. Second seeded Elizabeth McLawhorn also put in a strong performance with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Anna Perry.

"Elizabeth did an excellent job for us today," said Greene Central coach Donald Clark. "She hit a lot of good passing shots when her opponent came to the net."

Greene Central will next play at North Pitt in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference action.

Cross Country

Magnus sets course record for Eagles

Josh Magnus out-paced the competition as he set a new course record for Wayne Christian in a tri-meet on Monday afternoon.

Magnus came in with a time of 17 minutes, 57 seconds for the 3.1-mile course.

Logan Dawson came in just ahead of fellow Wayne Christian runner Jennifer Price to win the girls' race with a time of 25:09.

Team scores were unavailable as Cresset Christian and Johnston Christian did not have enough runners to qualify.

Wayne Christian will next compete at the Cliff's of the Neuse for Wayne County Meet on Wednesday.

Golf

Reeves again leads Warriors in ECC play

WILSON -- Jasmine Reeves took medalist honors by carding a 43 to help Eastern Wayne to the win in a five-team match at Willow Springs Country Club on Monday.

Eastern Wayne recorded an overall team score of 140 followed by Southern Wayne (157), Wilson Hunt (164) and Wilson Beddingfield (186).

Paula Webber and Erica Freeman both tallied under 50 scores for the Warriors with a 48 and 49 respectively.

For the Saints, Taylor Reeves fired a 51 while Jordan Hill and Taylor Scott both carded a 53.

Charles B. Aycock also competed in the match, but did not have enough competitors to qualify for a team score. Lauren Larison recorded a 62 and Krista Smith had a 65 for the Golden Falcons.

JV sports

* Volleyball -- North Lenoir remained undefeated with a 25-17, 25-21 win over Rosewood on Monday. Kristen Davenport and Jenna Rouse both tallied three kills to lead the Hawks (10-0, 1-0). Rachael Kornegay had one kill while Brittney Cabala, Holly Jones and Jennifer Baker had one ace apiece for Rosewood (1-6, 1-1).

* Soccer -- Wayne Christian and Trinity of Durham played to a 1-1 tie on Monday thanks to a pair of own goals. Trinity put the Eagles on the scoreboard in the first half and Wayne Christian returned the favor in the second half. The Eagles (3-0-3) next host Cape Fear Academy on Thursday.

* Tennis -- Eastern Wayne defeated New Bern 8-1 on Monday afternoon behind strong singles and doubles play. Lindsey Frederick, Lauren Bynum, Mollie Musgrave, Danielle Daniel and Elizabeth Borden all were singles winners for the Warriors. In doubles, the Warriors swept all three matches behind the tandems of Frederick-Musgrave, Daniel-Yates and Emily Northington-Borden.

* Tennis -- Charles B. Aycock doubled up Rocky Mt. Academy 6-3 on Monday afternoon. Hollie Baker, Nicole Kessler and Harlie Howard all emerged as singles winners for the Golden Falcons. In doubles' matches, the tandems of Alicia Sodoma-Howard, Baker-Kessler and Alexa Torres-Amanda Farmer were all winners for Aycock. The Golden Falcons are now 6-3 (1-0) and will next play Southern Wayne today at Mount Olive College.

Middle schools

* Norwayne d. Rosewood 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 -- Connor Davis and Courtney Gilbert both came up big serving to lead Norwayne to a win over Rosewood on Monday. Norwayne improved to 2-0 (1-0 Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference) and will next host Grantham today.

* Grantham d. Dillard 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 -- Grantham just got past Dillard in three tightly, contested games on Monday afternoon. Kasheika Wallace had two aces to lead Dillard while Cherissa White had a big day serving. Dillard drops to 0-1 and will next face Greenwood on Thursday.

* Spring Creek d. Greenwood 25-3, 25-21, 25-23 -- Spring Creek opened its season with an impressive win over Greenwood on Monday afternoon. Libero-Whitney Frederick and Karen Best both played well for the Gators. Spring Creek (1-0) will next host Mount Olive on Thursday.

* Spring Creek 8 d. Greenwood 2 -- Spring Creek tallied five first-half goals to get past Greenwood on Monday afternoon. Travis Nelson and Josh Hahn had second-half goals for Greenwood. Lefear Richardson and Billy Leggett both had strong games defensively for Greenwood who will next host Mount Olive on Sept. 24.

* Eastern Wayne 4 d. Mount Olive 1 -- Four different Eastern Wayne players would find the back of the net in defeating Mount Olive on Monday. Jae Kim, Rene Agulia, Steven Taylor and Tyler Brown all scored for Eastern Wayne while Lindsay Underwood, Brown and Kim added assists. Mount Olive's lone goal was scored by Alan Nunez. Eastern Wayne improves to 2-0 and will next travel to Brogden on Thursday while Mount Olive (0-2) will travel to Spring Creek.
