EW upends Hunt

Eastern Wayne swaggered onto the Wayne Community College courts almost a little too confident Thursday afternoon.
And Wilson Hunt quickly noticed the attitude. The visiting Warriors took the opening game in nearly every singles match.
Once Eastern Wayne head coach Nancy Dawson walked around and discussed strategies during changeovers, the host Warriors' demeanor changed. They toiled for every point the humid conditions and pulled out an 8-1, Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference win.
"We knew they were missing their top three players, so I think my girls went in a little bit overconfident and didn't pay attention to the fact that Hunt was not going down without a fight. They're going to scrap for every point."
Eastern Wayne (3-1 overall, 2-0 ECC) eventually swept the singles in straight-set fashion. Lindsey Frederick, Lauren Bynum, Mollie Musgrave, Casie Musgrave, Danielle Daniel and Emily Northington each triumphed over their respective opponent.
Northington lost only one game, while Mollie Musgrave dropped just two games.
"She played a very good, solid match," said Dawson said of Northington.
Hunt (3-3, 1-1) avoided the shutout with a win at No. 3 doubles.
"My biggest concern at this point is we've worked on a lot of fundamentals, but court inexperience is showing," said Dawson. "They're not finishing points; not doing what we've taught them to do.
"I guess they're reverting back to desperation methods instead of focusing on the game plan. But one thing is for sure, we're not going to give up."
