Wayne Christian volleyball team sweeps Norlina

NORLINA -- Katie Daniels registered eight kills as Wayne Christian rolled past Norlina Christian 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 on the Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference volleyball scene.
Brooke Norris dished out 16 assits for the Eagles. Traci Davis contributed six kills.
Wayne Christian (3-1 overall, 3-1 CCC) entertains Fayetteville Christian on Tuesday.
Cross country
Magnus places first
HENDERSON -- Wayne Christian's Josh Magnus continued his early-season dominance on the independent schools cross-country scene with a first-place effort in a non-conference tri-meet at Kerr-Vance Academy.
Magnus ran the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 55 seconds. Teammates Justin Brathwaite (23:08) and Noah Kearney (23:20) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Josh Burdette placed sixth.
On the girls' side, the Eagles' Jennifer Price recorded a fourth-place time of 26:10. Teammate Logan Dawson ended up fifth in 26:20. Katherine Laramee and Katie Austin placed 10th and 11th overall.
Wayne Christian runs again Sept. 6 at Cresset Christian.
