SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Spring Creek's early season struggles continued against Midway Friday night.
The Raiders exploded for 22 first-quarter points and routed the Gators 50-0.
"First half, we gave up big plays," said Spring Creek coach Roy Whitfield. "Four big plays killed us. We're just not making the play."
Even with welcoming back Alex Dunmire, who had been away from the team, the Gators had a difficult time moving the ball. Dunmire did rush for 33 yards on nine carries.
"It was good to have Alex Dunmire back," said Whitfield. "Later, when he gets in better shape, he's definitely going to help."
After having negative yards rushing as a team last week, Whitfield was happy to see his Gators accumulate 51 yards on the ground.
"My goal was to get a first down last night by rushing," Whitfield said. "My next goal is to score a rushing touchdown, but we're taking it one step at a time."
Defensively Adam Hinson and Sebastian Jackson both had six tackles to lead the Gators while Jeremy Sanders tallied five and Noah Hinson four including a sack.
At 0-3, Spring Creek will look for some improvement next week when it plays host to Lakewood.
"Anytime you play those Super Six teams they're pretty tough," said Whitfield. "The sad thing is, it doesn't get any easier."
