North Johnston rolls past North Lenoir

LaGRANGE -- Following a slow start, North Johnston awoke and pounded North Lenoir 30-13 on Friday night.

The Panthers pilled up 259 yards on the ground in all. North Johnston scored twice in both the second and third quarters, burying North Lenoir in a hole the Hawks were unable to climb out of.

Nick Williams had a strong performance for the Hawks as rushed for 102 yards including a 66-yard burst in the third quarter that pulled North Lenoir to within 21-6.

Other than the brilliant run, bright spots were few and far between for the Hawks. After a safety put North Johnston ahead 30-6 early in the fourth quarter, Joe Newborn's late 3-yard touchdown run and Ethan Baird's extra point cut the deficit to 30-12. However, it proved to be too little too late.

Nick Williams led the Hawks rushing attack with with 102 yards and Newborn finished with 62 yards on seven carries.

North Lenoir drops to 0-2 and will try to get on track Friday when they travel to Kinston.
