SNOW HILL -- William Brown lived up to his preseason billing Friday evening.
An all-state selection by the N.C. Prep Football News, the Greene Central senior threw for touchdown and ran for another in a 27-12 conquest of South Central.
Leading 7-6 after halftime, Brown jump-started the Rams' offense with a 32-yard touchdown strike to Curtis Braswell. Minutes later, Brown added a 12-yard scoring run. Aaron Harper supplied the two-point conversion to put Greene Central comfortably ahead 21-6.
South Central was unable to find any success in the quarter against the Rams' young, but talented defense. Daron Tripp emerged the top defender with 12 stops, while Harper contributed 10.
James Smith recovered two fumbles. Greene Central forced the Falcons to cough up the pigskin on five occasions.
Harper concluded the Rams' scoring with an 8-yard scamper in the fourth quarter. He finished with 122 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 totes. Brown contributed 92 yards.
Greene Central (1-0 overall) amassed 246 yards rushing.
The Rams entertain Wilson Beddingfield next Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex.
