K-Tribe scalps Pelicans

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Bullpen mates Chris Niesel and Neil Wagner combined for four innings of one-hit relief as Kinston easily turned back Myrtle Beach 6-2 on Monday evening.
Niesel tossed two hitless innings, while Wagner cleaned up in the eighth and ninth. Starter Sung-Wei Tseng (5-7) yielded four hits and two earned runs in a five-inning stint, and won his second straight start.
Kinston claimed its sixth consecutive decision and owns a five-game lead over the Pelicans in Southern Division play. The teams continue their four-game series today.
The K-Tribe opened the scoring in the first inning. Wes Hodges plated Jose Constanza and Matt Whitney with a two-RBI double.
Myrtle Beach forced a 2-2 tie after three innings, but watched Kinston take control for good. Jerad Head stole third base in the fourth and scored the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Josh Rodriguez clubbed his 13th home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the sixth inning. Jared Goedert added his first-ever Carolina League homer, a solo blast, in the seventh for the 6-2 finale.
Notes: Infielders Stephen Head and Chris De La Cruz were sent to Double A Akron over the weekend. ... C Chris Gimenez was sent from Double A back to Kinston. ... The K-Tribe's six-game win streak is its longest in second-half play this season.
