K-Tribe falls to the Pelicans

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Isaiah Ka'aihue slugged his team-leading 13th home run in the sixth inning -- the only score Myrtle Beach needed in a 3-0 victory over Kinston on Sunday afternoon.

Eric Campbell added an eighth-inning RBI single as both teams concluded first-half play in the Carolina League.

The K-Tribe, already assured a postseason berth in September, lost for just the third time in their last 19 outings.

Third baseman Wes Hodges extended his hitting streak to 17 games, the second longest in CL play this season, with a lead-off single in the sixth inning. Hodges is batting .325 overall, which is the second-best average among league players.

Ryan Edell (7-3) was the tough-luck loser, giving up just two earned runs in five plus innings. Dan Cevette came in to finish up the game for Kinston.

Jairo Cuevas (3-8) was the winner for Myrtle Beach.

Kinston (45-24 overall) takes a three-day break for the annual Carolina League-California League All-Star game. Representing the K-Tribe are players Max Ramirez, Chris Gimenez, Jim Deters (for the injured David Huff) and Frank Herrmann. Manager Mike Sarbaugh, pitching coach Tony Arnold and trainer Chad Wolfe comprise the coaching staff for the Carolina League All-Star team.
