K-Tribe snaps skid

FREDERICK, Md. -- Kinston snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over Frederick on Wednesday afternoon.

The K-Tribe improved to a Carolina League-best 17-12.

"I thought we played a good game, played good defense, made the plays we needed to," said Kinston Manager Mike Sarbaugh. "Frank Herrmann did a good job and kept us in the game."

Herrmann (2-0) had his longest outing of the year, going 61/3 innings while giving up four earned runs. He struck out three and surrendered just one walk.

Kinston's bullpen was great again as Jim Deters and Scott Roehl came in to throw two and two-thirds hitless innings. Roehl picked up his fourth save of the season.

Kinston got the scoring going in the second inning when Stephen Head scored on an RBI double by John Drennen. In the third inning Max Ramirez hit his team leading fifth home run of the season -- a two-run shot to left.

The K-Tribe scored again in the fifth inning. Nathan Panther scored on an RBI single by Ramirez, who has homered in back-to-back games.

Kinston scored the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh, when Jerad Head led off with a bunt single. He then advanced to third on a hit-and-run single by Nathan Panther.

Head scampered home on Chris De La Cruz's groundout.

"Ramirez came up big today and the team as a whole played great small ball," said Sarbaugh. "Head made some great defensive plays and first, it was great to see a clean game in the field again."

Kinston did not commit an error.

The teams concluded their four-game series this morning.
