Princeton put up five runs in the first inning and then cruised to a 10-3 win over Rosewood in Carolina 1-A Conference action on Monday night.

The two teams waited an extra 72 hours to play the game that was postponed on Friday night due to rain.

The wait was worth it for the Bulldogs who completed a perfect season in Carolina Conference games.

Dustin Pate led Princeton with two hits and a home run while Michael Radford and Andrew Cobb both added two hits apiece.

Cobb also picked up the victory on the mound as he allowed two earned runs in six innings while striking out nine.

David Smeltzer slammed a home run and a double, while driving home three runs to lead the Eagles.

Princeton finishes up the regular season 18-5 overall (10-0 CC) while Rosewood falls to 16-5 (7-3 CC).

Rosewood will open state playoff play on Friday night against Pamlico at 7 p.m.

North Lenoir

slams Goldsboro

North Lenoir hit five home runs -- including two grand slams -- and Dewitt Pope threw a no-hitter in North Lenoir's victory over Goldsboro in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play.

Andrew Manning had a grand slam and seven RBIs for the Hawks while Taylor Ginn added the other slam as he finished 2-for-3.

Tyler Smith, Cory Johnson and George Walters added the other three home runs for North Lenoir.

Josh Bass finished 3-for-3 while Stihl Sowers, Matt Kennedy, Cameron Beaman and Eric Hardy all added two hits apiece for the Hawks.

Pope finished with the complete game no-hitter with three strikeouts.

North Lenoir improved to 20-3 overall.

North Duplin to play

for postseason berth tonight

North Duplin will take on Ayden-Grifton tonight a 7 p.m. at Spring Creek High School in Seven Springs to decide fourth place in the Carolina Conference. The winner will receive the automatic playoff berth to the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs.

tops Spring Creek

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Following a scoreless first inning, North Duplin erupted for 20 runs over the next four innings to pound Spring Creek 20-0 on Monday evening in Carolina 1-A Conference action.

Pitcher Jessica Pridgen through a five-inning no-hitter as the only base runner to reach was by an error as she struck out six Gators.

Elizabeth Lane was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and four runs scored to lead the Rebels while Kristin Jones finished 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Brittney Carr, Casey Pate, Jenny Coley and Julie Ivey all added two hits for North Duplin.

North Duplin improves to 7-11 overall (2-8 CC) while Spring Creek drops to 0-18 (0-10).

Tennis

Wayne Christian

blanks Faith of Rocky Mount

Wayne Christian took all nine matches over Faith Christian of Rocky Mount in a 9-0 win.

Taylor Gray, Matthew Rouse, Woody Sasser, Daniel Glover, Kenneth Giordano and Matthew Thompson all picked up singles victories for the Eagles.

In doubles play the tandems of Gray/Rose, Sasser/Glover, Giordano/Smith recorded wins.

Wayne Christian is now 7-7 overall (3-0).

Middle schools

Norwayne baseball 14, Spring Creek 3 -- John Taylor had three hits to lead Norwayne to the win over Spring Creek and help keep the Cobras undefeated on the season. Tyler Farmer, Aaron Champion and Travis Mussleman all had two hits apiece for Norwayne. On the mound Champion picked up the victory going three innings and allowing three hits, one run and struck out three. Norwayne improves to 14-0 (6-0) and next host Brogden on Thursday.
