K-Tribe claims 11-inning thriller

KINSTON -- Mike Butia scored on a walk-off wild pitch and Kinston edged Wilmington 2-1 in an 11-inning affair Wednesday evening at historic Grainger Stadium.

Four K-Tribe hurlers limited the Bluerocks to five hits. Frank Herrmann allowed four hits in a six-inning stint. Mike Finocchi, Scott Roehl and T.J. Burton combined for five innings of one-hit scoreless relief and four strikeouts. Burton earned his second mound win of the season.

Kinston (2-2) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Stephen Head connected on his first home run of the season over the right field wall.

In the bottom of the 11th inning Max Ramirez and Head supplied back-to-back singles. Butia came in to pinch run for Ramirez and advanced to third base on a pick-off attempt.

Chris Gimenez was at the plate when Wilmington pitcher David Humen (0-1) threw a breaking ball in the dirt and to the back stop.

The teams conclude their four-game series today, weather permitting, at 7 p.m. David Huff, last year's first-round draft pick for Cleveland, will start for the K-Tribe.
