Trojan tennis goes 1-1 verus Barton

MOUNT OLIVE -- Former Eastern Wayne standout Jennifer Moats and Lauren Harris dropped just one game apiece in their respective singles matches, and helped Mount Olive defeat Barton 8-1 at the John Neal Walker Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Moats turned back the Bulldogs' Summer Chase 6-0, 6-1. Chase starred at Greene Central and led the Class 2-A program to four consecutive appearances in the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team championships. Harris dumped Kristen Packer 6-0, 6-1.
The Trojans also received singles wins from Monica Barone, Kristen Jones and Emily Escolas.
Barone-Jones, Carol Aro-Harris and Escolas-Moats each prevailed in their respective doubles match.
Mount Olive improved to 11-13 overall and 4-5 against Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference opposition. Barton (4-14 overall) departed with a 2-8 CVAC ledger.

Trojan men fall
MOUNT OLIVE -- Vitor Lage captured Mount Olive's lone singles victory and combined with Guillherme Serra for a doubles win during Tuesday afternoon's 7-2 loss against Barton College.
Lage, the No. 2 seed, upended the Bulldogs' Robert Jenner 6-3, 6-4. Lage-Serra, the Trojans' No. 1 tandem, defeated Brent Ching-Dan Mascall 8-1.
Mount Olive (11-11 overall) suffered just its second Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference loss in six outings. The Bulldogs (12-5) improved to 7-2 in league play.
The Trojans are the guest of Division I East Carolina on Friday and conclude regular-season play at home Saturday against defending league champion Anderson (S.C.) University.
