Lancaster perfect for Golden Falcons

SNOW HILL -- Julia Lancaster followed up last Friday's no-hitter by throwing a perfect game in Charles B. Aycock's 12-0 blanking of Greene Central on Wednesday evening.

The senior right-hander struck out seven Rams on the night and has not allowed a run in her last three outings. Lancaster is 3-3 after opening the season 0-3.

"I thought we played terrific defense behind Julia Lancaster tonight -- which you obviously have to do in a perfect game," said Aycock coach David West.

Jazzmine Lee, Jasmine Dobbin, Emily Jordan, Leiren Tillman and Anna Sullivan all contributed two RBIs to support Lancaster's sterling effort.

Aycock (7-4, 3-0) will visit conference rival Eastern Wayne on Friday.

Sanders blanks

Eastern Wayne

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir hurler Brittany Sanders tossed a complete game 10-0 shutout win over Eastern Wayne on Wednesday evening.

Sanders allowed only one hit and walk while striking out seven for the Hawks. She also helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs.

North Lenoir improves to 8-3 and will host Farmville Central on Friday.

Aycock wins

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock won its second in a row as it prepared for its conference showdown with Eastern Wayne on Friday by defeating Greene Central 6-2 on Wednesday evening.

North Carolina signee Garrett Davis and Joseph Toler both had two RBIs for the Golden Falcons while Bradley Taylor and Zack Wright added RBI hits.

Jay Rose (2-0) got the win by throwing two shutout innings while fanning five.

Will McLawhorn was 1-for-4 with a two-run double to lead the Rams.

Robert Tyndall suffered the loss by allowing four runs, two earned, in three innings.

Aycock improves to 7-3 while Greene Central falls to 3-7.

Wayne Country Day

improves to 8-1

Wayne Country Day got big games from Ryan Ford and Trent Langston to erase an early 2-0 deficit and beat Arendell-Parrott Academy 9-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

Ford was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Langston was 3-for-4 with a double, two-run homer and five RBIs.

On the mound, Kyle Pender improved to 2-0 by allowing two earned runs on five hits, walked four and struck out five in 41/3 innings.

WCDS improves to 8-1 (1-0) and will host defending conference champion Kerr-Vance Academy on Friday.

West Craven

pounds Saints

VANCEBORO -- West Craven pounded out 14 hits in a 17-7, five-inning triumph over visiting Southern Wayne on Wednesday evening.

Byron Powell led the Saints at the plate by going 2-for-3 with an RBI while Chris Massey added a hit and two RBIs. Sterling Grice also chipped in with an RBI double.

Tyler Edwards suffered the loss by allowing seven runs in an inning of work.

Southern Wayne, 5-6, returns to action on Friday against Wilson-Hunt.

North Lenoir gets

LaGRANGE -- Led by a two-run, first-inning home run by Bryce Grady -- North Lenoir defeated Eastern Wayne 7-4 on Wednesday evening.

Sthil Sowers added two hits and an RBI for the Hawks who improved to 9-1 overall.

Walker Gourley went 2-for-3 and Taylor Sutton had a solo home run for the Warriors.

On the mound Brandon Sutton picked up the win by allowing four runs, one earned, on five hits, walked three and struck out 11.

Jackson Fredrick (0-1) took the loss by allow six runs, three earned in 32/3 innings.

North Lenoir will return to action when the Hawks travel to Farmville Central on Friday while Eastern Wayne will host Charles B. Aycock.

Warriors annihilate

Beddingfield

Eastern Wayne slapped three home runs and eight extra-base hits total in a 16-1, five-inning rout of Wilson Beddingfield on Tuesday.

Walker Gourley, John Wooten and Tyler Wicks all homered for the Warriors, who remained unbeaten in three Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference outings. They continue play at home Friday against county rival C.B. Aycock, the reigning ECC regular-season and tournament champion.

Gourley (four RBI) just missed hitting for the cycle with a single, double and round-tripper in four at-bats. Wooten also doubled in four plate appearances, while Wicks finished with one hit.

Taylor Sutton doubled in a 2-for-2 effort. Nolan Lancaster batted 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Chad Gurley, Jackson Frederick (RBI) and Jose Ponce (two RBI) provided two hits apiece.

Wooten emerged the winning pitcher. The sophomore right-hander threw an efficient 46 pitches and yielded three hits.

"We've got to stay focused one game at a time," said Eastern Wayne head coach Jabo Fulghum. "The kids are playing hard and playing together. That's important right now."

off Flora MacDonald

Wayne Christian got six strong innings from Doug Johnson to beat Flora MacDonald 8-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson, who also had three hits and an RBI at the plate, struck out seven to pick up the victory for the Eagles.

Adam Brannan added two hits, including a double and two RBIs for the fourth ranked Eagles.

Wayne Christian improves to 5-1 (2-0) and will host Goldsboro today.

North Lenoir whips

Spring Creek

SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Lenoir improved to a perfect 3-0 in Carolina 1-A Conference play by dropping host Spring Creek 10-0 on Wednesday night.

Sasha Holeman recorded a hat trick to lead the way for the Hawks while Jordan Hudson and Gabby Hill both contributed two goals apiece.

Brynn Fulghum, Lindsay Walton and Meghan Johnson all tallied one goal each to close out the scoring for North Lenoir.

In goal, Sara Farmer and Johnson combined for the clean sheet.

North Lenoir moves to 5-6 overall and will next travel to Charles B. Aycock today.

blanks Rosewood

Greene Central took all nine matches from Rosewood on Wednesday afternoon.

Top seed Travis Moore picked up a straight-set win over Daniel Elis 6-2, 6-0 to lead Greene Central.

Banks Nimmo, Trey Cash, Spencer Dail, James Kersey and Andrew Harrison all picked up singles wins for the Rams.

"We played really aggressive tennis today," said Greene Central coach Brad Sauls. "I was pleased with our ability to put away short balls and volleys."

Greene Central improves to 9-3 (2-1) and will next host North Pitt on Thursday.

Southern Wayne

outlasts Kinston

Southern Wayne got 19 hits in an 12-11 victory of Kinston on Wednesday afternoon.

The Saints were victorious despite 11 errors.

Joe Otellio was 4-for-5 and Ryan Mesiner was 2-for-3 to lead Southern Wayne.

Rob Herring picked up with win on the mound.

Southern Wayne improves to 1-8 (1-1) and will play West Craven on April 4.
