MOC baseball moves up to No. 20

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive matched its highest ranking of the season, jumping six spots to No. 20 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 30 Poll, it was announced Monday. The Trojans, which have ranked in the top 30 in each of the last six weeks, were ranked No. 20 in the preseason poll.
Mount Olive (25-8 overall, 10-2 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference) extended its winning streak to seven with a 6-0 mark last week, including a sweep over St. Andrews in a three-game CVAC series. The Trojans outscored their opponents 86-12 in the six games, holding five opponents to one run or less.
Mount Olive set a school single-game record for runs scored in Thursday's 27-1 victory over Indiana (Pa.). The Trojans scored in double digits four times last week, including three games of 18 runs or more.
Mount Olive received 172 points, putting the Trojans 22 points behind No. 19 St. Edwards (Texas) and 12 points ahead of No. 21 Montevallo (Ala.). Cal State Los Angeles remained at No. 1 for the second straight week.
In addition, Mount Olive is ranked No. 4 in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Atlantic Region Top 10 Poll.
Mount Olive travels to Murfreesboro on Wednesday to take on Chowan in a non-conference doubleheader. Game time is 2 p.m. The Trojans resume CVAC play this weekend with a three-game series against Barton Saturday and Sunday at Wilson, N.C.
