CALYPSO -- Brad Rhodes came home with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning via a wild pitch, giving North Duplin a 3-2 walk-off victory over Union.

Rock Bennett had another stellar game on the mound as he tossed seven innings of three-hit ball, allowing one earned run while striking out 10.

Billy Mello went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI for the Rebels.

North Duplin, now 3-1, will next travel to Wayne Country Day today.

WCS pounds

Northwood Temple

Adam Brannan pitched six strong innings to lead Wayne Christian to a 15-1 win over Northwood Temple on Monday afternoon.

Brannan allowed just three hits while striking out nine in six innings of work to pick up the victory.

T.A. Brannan recorded a double and single along with three RBIs for the Eagles.

The victory improves Wayne Christian to 2-0 (1-0) and will next travel to Hobgood on Thursday.

Eastern Wayne

falls to Fike

Eastern Wayne fell to 2-3 on the season by falling to Wilson Fike 8-2 in non-conference action on Monday evening.

Nolan Lancaster (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Chard Gurley went 1-for-3 with a triple and a RBI for the Warriors while Taylor Sutton also went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne had a rough night in the field as 12 Warrior errors helped Wilson Fike to a 16-6 non-conference win on Monday evening.

Casey Mitchell went 2-for-2 with a run scored for the Warriors while Carrie Adams added two hits and two RBI. Meghan Pittman, Caitlin Turner, Stephanie MacConnell and Brianna Williams all added a hit and a RBI for Eastern Wayne.

The Warriors next take the field today when they host North Lenoir.

Late-inning heroics

Wayne Christian got 14 runs in the final three innings to defeat Northwood Temple 18-6.

The Eagles got off to a slow start after having a week off, but overcame some earlier miscues and came alive in the final three innings to win big in their first conference match-up.

Traci Davis picked up the win by giving up two earned runs on four hits in five innings, walked two and struck out eight. Cynthia Burroughs came in for the final two innings and shut down Northwood, striking out five of the seven batters she faced.

Carly Hightower went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a inside-the-park home run.

Wayne Christian, 2-0 overall and 1-0 CCC, will travel to Hobgood on Thursday.

Golf

Rams prevail

in six team match

Greene Central came out on top in a six-team match at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course with a score of 318 on Monday afternoon.

Will Norville came away with medalist honors with a score of 73 for North Lenoir.

The match marked the return of the Goldsboro golf team, coached by Al Sutherland, who returned to action after years of not fielding a team. The team of Darren Pittman, Michael Thevenin, Obadi Spate, Jeremi Chapman, Chris Williams, Rickey Richardson, William Sheffield and Avion Springer placed sixth for the Cougars with a score of 530.

"For the first time out I think the guys did very well -- getting used to the course and just the overall etiquette of golf," said Sutherland. "We're expecting these guys to really be an asset to the golf team for the next couple of years."

North Lenoir finished second with a score of 325.

Rosewood successful

in season opener

FARMVILLE -- Rosewood put on a dominating performance in its season opening 8-1 road victory over Farmville Central on Monday afternoon.

No. 1 seed Daniel Ellis led the way for the Eagles with a 3-6, 6-0 (10-2) win over Tyler Benson.

Rosewood, now 1-0, next travels to Greene Central on Wednesday.

off Eastern Wayne

Eastern Wayne dropped to 1-3 with a 6-2 defeat to Jacksonville on Monday in non-conference action.

Brandi Dean tallied the Warriors two goals while Jahelly Santiago made 23 saves in goal.

Eastern Wayne will next play at North Lenoir on Wednesday.

Middle Schools

Spring Creek baseball 15, Brogden 5 -- Ethan Potter went 2-for-4 with a double and triple to lead the Gators to a big win over Brogden. Chris Boseman added a triple of his own while Tanner Smith picked up the victory on the mound by throwing three innings of shut out baseball. Spring Creek improves to 1-1 while Brogden drops to 1-2.
