SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Jenny Jackson and Morgan Whaley both hit two-run homers in the fourth inning and Jackson added a two-run double in the fifth as Mount Olive defeated Davis and Elkins 6-0 in the Trojans' opening game at the Smash Hit Tournament in Savannah, Ga.
Shauna Cowdrey (4-2) tossed six innings of one-hit relief for the win. Cowdrey struck out seven and walked one as she extended her scoreless streak to 18 consecutive innings. Cowdrey struck out the side in the third and retired the final seven batters she faced.
Cowdrey relieved starter Ashley Raynor, who left the game in the second inning after getting hit in the shoulder with a line drive. Raynor will likely be rested during Wednesday's two games, but is expected to be ready for this weekend's games.
Erin Wilson led off the top of the fourth and one out later, Jackson belted her fourth home run of the year to give Mount Olive a 2-0 lead. Courtney Wallace singled one out later and Whaley followed with her fourth homer of the season.
Mount Olive (13-5) added two runs in the fifth as Allison Czerski and Tiffanie Pittman both singled, moved to second and third on Wilson's sacrifice and scored on Jackson's double.
The Trojans settled for a split on the day, falling to preseason nationally 18th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne 4-3. Jackson went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in. Jackson, who drove in nine runs against Elizabeth City State Sunday, has 16 runs batted in over her last four games.
Mount Olive fell behind 2-0 before Wilson set up the Trojans' first run in the top of the third, stealing second and third and scoring on Jackson's single.
Kensie Cobb tied the game in the fourth, leading off with an infield single and stealing second. After a ground out moved her to third, Cobb scored on a passed ball.
Lenoir-Rhyne regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth, but the Trojans answered in the top of the fifth. Pittman led off with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Jackson's single to tie the game 3-3.
Lenoir-Rhyne took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth on a leadoff single, two ground outs and a wild pitch.
