MOUNT OLIVE -- Jenny Jackson, who threw 102/3 scoreless innings in two appearances and hit two home runs in four games over the weekend for Mount Olive, has been named Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. Jackson becomes the first player in the CVAC since 2004 to win both softball awards in the same week and the first Trojan in seven years to accomplish the feat.

Jackson, a sophomore and Charles B. Aycock grad, struck out five and allowed only three hits in six innings in Mount Olive's season-opening 6-0 win at Lander Friday. She followed that performance by allowing only two hits in 42/3 scoreless innings of relief against Newberry the next day. Jackson finished the weekend with a 1-0 record.

At the plate, Jackson hit a two-run homer in the first inning against Lander and helped rally the Trojans from a three-run deficit against Newberry with a sixth-inning two-run homer. She drew a walk with the bases loaded in a six-run seventh inning as the Trojans won 8-4. She hit .333 for the week with an .833 slugging percentage.

Jackson transferred to Mount Olive from Division I Western Carolina, where she earned All-Southern Conference first team honors and was named 2006 Southern Conference Softball Freshman of the Year.

Prior to Jackson, the last Trojan to win CVAC Softball Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors during the same week was Michelle Matthews in 2000. Matthews went on to be named CVAC Player of the Year that season and Mount Olive captured the 2000 CVAC Tournament championship.
