LAURINBURG -- Helen Moore scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half as Mount Olive rallied from an eight-point deficit, but regionally sixth-ranked St. Andrews pulled away for a 67-60 win over the Trojans in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball Thursday. Alisa Jones recorded her second double-double in three games with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Tilah Worthy matched a career high with 12 points.
Mount Olive (11-11 overall, 7-8 CVAC) held an early one-point lead after Worthy's three-pointer put the Trojans on top 14-13 with 11:19 left in the first half. But St. Andrews (15-6, 11-4) broke an 18-18 tie with a 9-0 run and led the remainder of the half, going into the break with a 35-29 halftime lead.
The Trojans played most of the first half without point guard Keona Corley, who picked up two fouls in the first minute of the game and was whistled for her third personal with less than two minutes left in the half.
St. Andrews held a 48-40 lead when Brittney Robich's three-pointer ignited a Trojan run. Moore's putback pulled Mount Olive within one and after a Keshaun Mozee steal, Jones' putback put the Trojans on top 55-54 with 5:22 left to play.
After a St. Andrews timeout, Karen Foggie hit a pair of free throws and the Knights led the remainder of the game. Mount Olive was down 63-57 with 47 seconds remaining when Jones' putback off a missed three-point attempt gave the Trojans a three-point play opportunity and make it a one-possession game. But the Trojans were unable to get any closer than four points.
Robich finished with 10 points for Mount Olive, while Mozee dished out seven assists, one shy of matching a career high. Moore added seven rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots for the Trojans.
Ashley Mitchell, who recorded seven assists, scored 14 of her 19 points in the first half for St. Andrews, while Foggie recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Diana Martinez added 12 points.
Mount Olive returns home Saturday as the Trojans play host to Lees-McRae in a CVAC match-up. Tip-off is 2 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.
