Aycock's Lee scores 23 overtime road victory

RED OAK -- Jazzmine Lee pumped in a season-high 23 points and Charles B. Aycock escaped Northern Nash 53-46 in overtime on Thursday evening.

Nikki Battle forced overtime with a game-tying 3-pointer with eights remaining in regulation. The Golden Falcons, who won their second overtime contest of the season, outscored the Knights 12-5 in the extra four-minute session.

Bridgette Briggs and Chantel Gaines each tallied six points for Aycock, which improved to 3-8 overall and collected its second consecutive road win.

Donneka Whitehead led Northern Nash with 12 points.

Smithfield-Selma

DUDLEY -- Lynneshia Leonard spearheaded a balanced offensive attack with 10 points in Southern Wayne's 40-29, non-conference victory over Smithfield-Selma on Thursday.

Alyssa Bradshaw chipped in eight points for the Saints, who climbed to 3-4 overall heading into today's home contest against county rival Goldsboro.

Kiara Ingram, Shakoria Clark and Brianna Lofton knocked down six points apiece.

"I thought we did a pretty good job tonight," said Southern Wayne coach Chuck Crumpler. "We played harder tonight than we have in the past few games. We played defense much better.

"We got the ball, pushed it up the floor pretty good and that's what helped us the first quarters."

Southern Wayne led 26-13 at halftime and 36-17 after three quarters.

clips Golden Falcons

RED OAK -- Jacob Pendleton led C.B. Aycock with six points in a 75-31, non-conference loss at Northern Nash on Thursday evening.

Jonathan Williams added five points and Jordan Riley scored four for the Golden Falcons, who dropped to 0-11 overall.

Steven Baker led three Northern Nash players in double figures with 15 points. Brian Thomas scored 13, while Michael Hilliard chipped in 12.

The Knights (1-5), who led 46-15 at halftime, snapped a five-game losing streak.

The teams meet again Tuesday in Pikeville.

Saints come back

against Spartans

DUDLEY -- Orlando Davis provided 10 of his team-high 15 points in the second half and Southern Wayne claimed a come-from-behind, 73-60 non-conference victory over Smithfield-Selma.

Jon Hart and Anthony Vick registered 14 and 12 points, respectively, for the Saints. Kendrick Thompson added nine.

Smithfield-Selma led 17-14 after one quarter, but Southern Wayne forged ahead 37-33 at halftime. The Saints posted a 10-point advantage after three periods of play.

Ashton Dickson led the Spartans with a game-high 18 points.

Southern Wayne entertains county rival Goldsboro High today.

RED OAK -- Kyle LaFlamme poured in a team-high 11 points in C.B. Aycock's 51-33, non-conference defeat at Northern Nash on Thursday afternoon.

RaJohn Ormond added six points for the Golden Falcons.

C.B. Aycock (1-10) entertains Northern Nash next Tuesday.

Smithfield-Selma

upends Saints

DUDLEY -- Rashaad Hill emerged Southern Wayne's top scorer with 16 points in a 50-47, non-conference loss against Smithfield-Selma on Thursday afternoon.

Hill collected 10 points in the final period. Teammates Dallas Sutton, Patrick Atkinson and Javan McMillan each had five points.

The Saints entertain county rival Goldsboro today.

Faith Christian

collects road win

FAYETTEVILLE -- Charity Spencer paced Faith Christian with eight points in a 21-9 victory over N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A rival Berean Baptist.

Madison Caudle and Autumn Welch provided four and three points, respectively.

The Conquerors (2-1) entertain Falls Road today. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

upends Knights

PIKEVILLE -- Courtney Sheeks tallied a team-high 10 points in C.B. Aycock's 31-29, non-conference win over Northern Nash on Thursday afternoon.

Beth Carter added eight points and Shamyka Polite scored six.

The Golden Falcons (2-8) travel to Northern Nash next Tuesday.

Eastern Wayne boys 80, Rosewood 12 -- Jonathan Midgette collected 22 points for the unbeaten Warriors. Jamal Broadie provided 10, while Lamar Best and Byron Thompson contributed eight points apiece. Eastern Wayne (5-0) is the guest of Greenwood on Monday.

Eastern Wayne girls 25, Rosewood 5 -- Carly Givens emerged the Warriors' top scorer with 10 points. Eastern Wayne (5-0) visits Greenwood on Monday.

Grantham girls 35, Brogden 10 -- Taylor Hood paced the Bulldogs with 13 points, while Andrel Morris chipped in 10. Courtney Holland contributed six points, three blocked shots and eight rebounds. Grantham (1-3) travels to Mount Olive on Monday.

Norwayne boys 45, Spring Creek 31 -- Shepherd Whitfield paced the Cobras with a game-high 17 points. Marquis Bryant added six points. Norwayne improved to 3-2 overall.

Norwayne girls 26, Spring Creek 12 -- Courtnei Gilbert tallied 11 points, while Leigh Johnson and Alana Moore scored four points apiece. Ashley Parks notched five points for the Gators. Norwayne (4-1) travels to Brogden on Monday.

Dillard boys 51, Mount Olive 36 -- Michael Sawyer and Robert Washington each scored 10 points for the Tigers. Deontae Leonard pumped in nine points, while Cortez Sprangle dished out six assists. Dillard (2-1) goes to Spring Creek on Monday.

Wayne Christian girls 23, Neuse Baptist 20 -- Katie Isenhower and Sumner Brathwaite paced the Eagles with six points and five rebounds apiece. Brathwaite collected four blocks. Britney O'Hara had seven rebounds and six steals. Wayne Christian improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play.
