Warriors' Chenier, Robinson emerge double winners

Eastern Wayne's Mason Chenier and Xander Robinson emerged double winners in an eight-team boys' swim meet contested Tuesday evening at the Family Y pool.
Chenier touched the wall first in the 50 free (22.99 seconds) and 100 free (51.22). Robinson claimed the 100 fly (1:03.89) and 200 IM (2:16.68) as the Warriors edged runner-up Roanoke Rapids 425-380 in team competition.
Melvin Shipman added a first-place finish in the 100 back (59.00) and took second in the 200 free (1:59.42).
Chenier, Robinson, Shipman and Spenser Rouse posted a first-place time (3:46.11) in the 400 free relay.
C.B. Aycock's Gavin Forrest captured fourth in the 100 fly and fifth in the 50 free, while teammate Jackson Wooten ended up ninth overall in the 50 free. Wooten also took 11th in the 100 free while Ben Ivey finished 17th.
Ryan Martin (200 free), Johnny Tsui (500 free, 200 IM) and Kenan Stewart (100 back) also competed in individual events.
The Golden Falcons finished seventh with 101 points.
On the girls' side, Aycock's Garrett Forrest and Carrigan Chastain each seized a first-place finish. Forrest prevailed in the 100 free (59.19) and Chastain triumphed in the 100 back (1:10.11).
Margaret Connolly picked up fourth in the 100 free and Ashley Potts complemented Chastain with an eighth-place time (1:28.37) in the 100 back. Connolly, Potts, Chastain and Forrest comprised two relay squads that finished runner-up to D.H. Conley (400 free) and Eastern Wayne (200 medley).
Bailey Upchurch paced Eastern Wayne's fourth-place showing in team competition with second-place efforts in the 200 IM (2:20.84) and 100 fly (1:05.47).
Regan Stoneburner took third in the 500 free (7:16.62) and swam one leg on the Warriors' winning 200 medley relay team. Joining Stoneburner were Ashleigh Deal, Bailey Upchurch and Ashley Robinson.
Amie Hook added a fifth-place time in the 50 free and seventh-place performance in the 200 free. Deal was sixth in the 100 back.
Wilson Hunt edged D.H. Conley 398-389 in team competition. The Warriors amassed 228 points, while Aycock collected 175 points. The Golden Falcons edged Roanoke Rapids by one point for fifth place.
