Ridgecroft egdes WCDS on last-second shot

AHOSKIE -- Ridgecroft's basket with five seconds remaining gave the Rams a 62-61 victory over Wayne Country Day on Wednesday night in non-conference play.

The Chargers, out of timeouts, raced up the court for a final shot, but came up short.

Floranta Wynn had another strong performance recording a double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 12 rebounds for WCDS. Ajay Fowler added 16 points and Dave Wilson came away with seven rebounds for WCDS.

The Chargers (3-4) host North Johnston on Friday.

Greene Central gives

Wilson Fike first loss

WILSON -- Albert Barron's 14 points and Reggie Johnson's 13 led Greene Central to a 49-43 win over Wilson Fike on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

The loss dropped Wilson Fike to 5-1 while Greene Central improved to 4-2.

The Rams next play at Ayden-Grifton on Friday.

Princeton wins

at Hobbton

NEWTON GROVE -- Princeton outscored Hobbton by 17 in the second half, to come away with a 66-51 victory, Wednesday night in non-conference play.

Ryan Daughtry scored 25 points for the Bulldogs while Josh Barefoot tallied 16 and Dan Jarrell added 15.

Princeton (5-2) next travels to face Lakewood on Friday.

Southern Wayne

outscores Triton

ERWIN -- Orlando Davis poured in 25 points and Jon Hart added 23 to lead Southern Wayne to a 84-70 victory over Triton.

The victory improves Southern Wayne to 3-2 on the season.

One up, one

down for Gators

DEEP RUN -- Josh Wright's 18 points weren't enough for Spring Creek, as they fell at South Lenoir 58-49 on Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, Desmond Raeford led three players in double figures with 16 points as Spring Creek nipped Midway 65-62 in non-conference play.

Raeford shot 7 of 8 from the floor, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists in the Gators' first win of the season. Wright provided 15 points and five steals. David Harris contributed 10 points, two assists and seven rebounds.

Spring Creek shot nearly 58 percent (27-of-47) for the game.

"A good game. (Our) team play is improving," said Gators coach Sonny Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick said Friday's game with James Kenan has been postponed. The Tigers are playing two-time defending champion Thomasville for the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-AA (large-school) state title on Saturday.

The Gators play at home on Tuesday against Hobbton.

ERWIN -- Southern Wayne fell behind 16-4 at the end of the first quarter and never recovered, falling at Triton 54-41 in non-conference play on Wednesday evening. Lanesha Leonard scored 14 points to lead the Saints who fell to 2-3.

Aycock drops

road contest

TARBORO -- Jazzmine Lee pumped in 15 points and grabbed three steals in C.B. Aycock's 44-37, non-conference loss at Tarboro High on Tuesday evening.

Briggs added 10 points and three rebounds.

Spring Creek

falls to Midway

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Midway exploded for 38 second-half points and turned back Spring Creek 61-37 in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

Melanique Deveaux emerged the Gators' top scorer with 16 points, while Maura Phipps added 10.

Deveaux had four steals and four rebounds. Phipps pulled down five rebounds.

Spring Creek traveled to South Lenoir on Wednesday.

AHOSKIE -- Wayne Country Day suffered their first loss conference loss, falling at Ridgecroft 35-28.

Brandon Davis led WCDS with 13 points while Vaughn Eason added nine.

WCDS (3-2, 1-1) next hosts North Johnston on Friday.

wins over Triton

ERWIN -- Dallas Sutton's 20 points led Southern Wayne to a 45-41 victory over Triton on Wednesday.

Javarius McMillen added 18 for the Saints who improved to 3-2 on the season.

AHOSKIE -- Amber McEarnhardt pumped in 12 points as Wayne Country Day endured a 32-29, non-conference loss at Ridgecroft School on Wednesday afternoon.

Catherine Ford added seven points for the Chargers, who slipped to 1-3 overall.

Wayne Country Day entertains St. Mary's today.

Goldsboro edges

C.B. Aycock

Goldsboro recorded their first victory with a 35-34 victory over Charles B. Aycock on Wednesday.

Laquetith Holmes scored a team-high 15 points for the Cougars. Beth Carter led Aycock with a game-high 18 points.

Middle schools

Greenwood boys 49, Rosewood 29 -- Adam Hobbs scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Greenwood (1-2) to the victory.

Dillard girls 33, Norwayne 18 -- Shakira Campbell scored a game-high 12 points and Machiya Maye added nine points and five steals to lead Dillard (2-0) to the win. Courtney Gilbert led Norwayne with 10 points in the loss.
