Gators fall in overtime

Spring Creek dropped their opening game of the season, falling in overtime to East Duplin 80-71 in non-conference play.

Josh Wright scored a team-high 27 points and dished out five assists for the Gators. Desmond Raiford also had a strong game for Spring Creek recording a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

The Gators return to action on Friday when they play host to Farmville Central.

Wilson Fike

downs Aycock

WILSON -- Wilson Fike buried C.B. Aycock with a barrage of three-pointers in beating the Golden Falcons 60-36, Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

Michael King and Alex Peacock both led C.B. Aycock with six points.

The Golden Falcons (0-5) return to action Friday night when they travel to play North Lenoir.

Princeton

wins big

WILSON -- Josh Hall poured in 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds leading Princeton to a 73-43 non-conference victory over the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 24-6 first-quarter lead and coasted for the easy win to improve to 4-1 on the year.

Princeton returns to action this Friday when they host Union.

Eastern Wayne knocks

off North Lenoir

Lamar Davis scored 15 points leading Eastern Wayne to a 69-48 non-conference victory over North Lenoir, Wednesday night.

Up by just five at halftime, the Warriors outscored the Hawks by 16 in the second-half to pull away for their first win of the season. Eastern Wayne (1-3) will next visit South Central on Friday.

Spring Creek committed 29 turnovers in their 57-17 non-conference loss to East Duplin on Wednesday evening.

Melanquie DeVeaux led the Gators with six points. East Duplin was led by Andrea Barber who scored 16.

Spring Creek returns to action on Friday when they play at home versus Farmville Central.

Eastern Wayne picks

up first win in OT

Four Warriors scored in double-figures as Eastern Wayne pulled off a dramatic 57-52 non-conference win in overtime over North Lenoir on Wednesday evening.

With Eastern Wayne leading by three, North Lenoir's Karla Miller drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to force OT. In the overtime period, the Warriors outscored the Hawks by five to improve to 1-3 on the year.

"The girls didn't quit, they played hard," said Eastern Wayne coach Brent Holland. "We've been close before, but we finally got over the hump."

Yasmine Washington and Brittani Billups both recorded double-doubles in the victory. Washington knocked down four three-pointers en route to scoring 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Billups had 13 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. Eboni Reid added 11 and Noelle Kelly had 10 points to go along with seven steals for the Warriors, who next travel to South Central on Friday.

Wilson Fike keeps

C.B. Aycock winless

WILSON -- Wilson Fike dropped C.B. Aycock to 0-5 on the year as they defeated the Golden Falcons 52-32 in non-conference action, Wednesday evening. Erin Medford led C.B. Aycock with 12 points while Jasmine Dobbins added eight. The Golden Falcons will look to pick up win number one on Friday night when the travel to face North Lenoir.
