Rosewood men's soccer team concludes regular-season play with victory
Rosewood notched a pair of second-half goals and knocked off Louisburg 3-1 in the Class 1-A Carolina/Tar-Roanoke Conference regular-season finale for both teams at Branch Pope Field.
The Eagles (8-8-1) and Warriors finished tied for third at 3-5.
Travis Mitchell opened the scoring for Rosewood off an assist from Elliott Lee in the first half. Goss Kendall boosted the score to 2-0 off Luis Hernandez's assist in the second half.
After Louisburg pulled within a goal, Hernandez provided the winning margin with a score off Taylor Allen's assist.
Spring Creek
plays NJ today
Spring Creek and North Johnston, the co-Carolina/Tar-Roanoke Conference champions, will play a match today to determine the No. 1 seed for the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.
Game time is 5 p.m. at Rosewood.
Hawks, Rams
tie for second
LaGRANGE -- Tyler Smith and C.C. Croom each tallied two goals in North Lenoir's 4-1 victory over Greene Central in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams Wednesday.
The teams finished tied for second in conference play, and the Hawks won the coin flip to determine seeding for the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs. The Hawks drew the No. 2 seed, with the Rams seeded third.
Croom and Dustin King each provided an assist in the victory.
Ricardo Sanchez collected Greene Central's lone goal off Felipe Jimenez's assist. Teammate Ivan Martinez recorded seven saves in goal.
Keeper Bryce Grady had nine stops for the Hawks.
North Lenoir improved to 10-8-2 overall, while Greene Central dipped to 8-10.
Middle schools
Norwayne volleyball d. Rosewood 25-20, 25-22, 25-22 -- The Cobras received outstanding efforts from Ashley Shingleton, Ashley Thomas, Cassidy Anderson, Jessica Hare, Connor Davis, Brooke Bell and Rachel Jordan. Norwayne remained undefeated in 14 outings and continues play next Tuesday at Dillard. Rosewood's top servers were Rebecca Fail, Jenna Aycock, Heather Silvani, Kristen Lynn, Rachel Kornegay, Kerri Jo Gurley and Kayla Ormond. The Eagles fell to 9-3 overall and play host to Grantham today.
