SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek improved to 2-1 overall with a sweep over Midway at home on Wednesday.

The Gators took the match, 25-19, 25-14, 26-24.

Tasha Whitfield had 13 kills, while Kristin Smith added seven kills for Spring Creek. Brooke Albertson dished out seven assists and two aces, and teammate Brandi Simpkins provided four kills and two blocks.

On Tuesday, Smith provided 12 kills and four blocks in the Gators' 25-11, 25-10, 25-11 win at Hobbton.

Albertson and Ashley Barwick combined for 17 assists for Spring Creek, while Whitfield added eight kills and Brooke Boggan had six kills.

The Gators are slated to host C.B. Aycock on Sept. 5.

Hawks sweep

Lenoir rival

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Brittany Sanders was a perfect 16-of-16 from the service line and posted five kills in the Hawks' 25-9, 25-22, 25-9 win at home over Kinston on Wednesday.

Brynn Fulghum added a nine-of-nine effort at the service line, while Anna Kennedy provided five kills.

North Lenoir travels at C.B. Aycock today at 4:30 p.m.

WCDS suffers

home loss

Wayne Country Day's Shelly Sullivan had seven kills and two digs in the Chargers' three-set loss to Rocky Mount Academy on Tuesday at home.

Ashley Clark provided 17 assists and three kills for WCDS (2-3), while Stephanie Sykes had four kills and four digs.

The Chargers host Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Bulldogs fall

in five-setter

PRINCETON -- Princeton's Brittany Davis provided a whopping 28 kills and had three digs in the Bulldogs' five-set loss at home against Bunn on Wednesday.

The Wildcats took the match, 25-23, 27-25, 17-25, 17-25, 15-13 and handed Princeton (4-1) its first loss of the season.

Stephanie Daughtry and Cynthia Peedin combined for 20 kills for the Bulldogs, while Kortnie Yutzy, Amber Wood and Tiesha Williams combined for 29 digs.

Princeton returns to action on Sept. 5 at Midway.

top Falcons

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Nikolas Frederick ran a 20:01 to take first in a two-team, Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference meet on Tuesday at the Golden Falcons' course.

Hunt followed by claiming six of the next nine spots to win the meet by a margin of 24-34.

Aycock's Eric Dubose (22:38), Travis Reeves (23:12) and Daniel Pennington (24:41) also posted top-10 finishes.

In the girls meet, Aycock's Megan Hales finished third at 26:38, while teammate Caroline Schlaeppi took fourth at 27:08. Jasmine Dobbin (28:43) finished seven for the Falcons.

The Warrior girls emerged with a 22-35 win in the team scoring.

Weather permitting, Aycock is slated to host Goldsboro today at 4:30 p.m.

SMITHFIELD -- Wayne Christian dropped just three games in singles in a 9-0 win at Johnston Christian on Tuesday.

Mary West, Chris Hoper, Catie Fairchild, Samantha Reeves and Reagan Hinton captured victories in singles, while the doubles combinations of Hoper-Reeves and Rebecca James-Lindsay Whaley won in doubles. The Eagles (2-0) took No. 3 singles and doubles by default.

NEWTON GROVE -- Spring Creek's Shaquita Brooks posted eight kills, two aces and two blocks as the Gators claimed a 20-25, 25-21, 25-21 victory at Hobbton on Tuesday.

Jordan Coor added six aces, three kills and three digs for Spring Creek, while Randi Oxendine had three assists and two aces.

On Wednesday, Spring Creek suffered a 25-19, 26-24 loss to Midway. Coor led the Gators with seven aces and three kills.

Hawks bounce

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Enjoli Mason was 21-of-23 from the service line and had two kills in the Hawks' 18-25, 25-19, 25-21 win over Kinston at home on Tuesday.

Jessica Kennedy provided a solid effort at the service line, going 12-of-12.

North Lenoir (1-2) travels to Charles B. Aycock today.

Trojans collect

first win

PIKEVILLE -- South Johnston claimed its first victory of the 2006 season with a 25-18, 25-19 non-conference sweep of C.B. Aycock on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomores Jennifer Warren and Michelle Pratt each served an ace for the Golden Falcons. Teammate Victoria Benton, a freshman, also recorded an ace.

C.B. Aycock (1-1) entertains North Lenoir at 4:30 p.m. today.

South Johnston exited 1-2.
