Women's soccer trio honored by NCCSIA

Mount Olive placed three players on the 2005 NCCSIA All-State College Division Women's Soccer Team, as selected by members of the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association. Midfielder April Jacobs was named to the team for the second year in a row, while forward Lyndsay Brennan and defender Caitlyn Wright both made their first appearance on the All-State Team.

Mount Olive, which had the most selections of any school on last year's All-State Team, tied with Catawba for the most players on this year's team. The Trojans have had eight All-State honorees in the last two seasons. Jacobs, a sophomore from Fayetteville, N.C., led the CVAC and ranked 16th in the nation in assists per game in 2005. She tallied six goals and 13 assists in 2005 and is already the Trojans' all-time career assists leader with 26. Jacobs has been named to the All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference first team and the NSCAA All-Southeast Region third team in each of her first two years at Mount Olive. Jacobs came within one vote of being a unanimous selection.

Brennan, a freshman from Springfield, Va., finished with 16 goals and 10 assists, and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2005 CVAC Women's Soccer Tournament. Brennan capped a six-game goal-scoring streak with two goals in the Trojans' 4-3 win over top-seeded Pfeiffer in the semifinal round of the CVAC Tournament, including the game-winner in overtime. Brennan was the lone freshman on the All-State Team.

Wright, a sophomore from Titusville, Fla., helped Mount Olive's defense record seven shutouts and limit 10 opponents to five shots or less. Playing the sweeper position, Wright was a part of a Trojan defense that held opponents to 1.32 goals per game. During her freshman season, Wright was named to the All-CVAC Tournament Team.
