Rosewood's Trey Kriger dished out three assists as the Eagles defeated first-place North Johnston 3-2 at Branch Pope Field on Friday.
The win assures Rosewood of the Class 1-A Carolina/Tar Roanoke Conference's second and final guaranteed N.C. High School Athletic Association playoff spot as the Eagles finished with a 4-3 mark in league play, one game ahead of third-place Spring Creek. North Johnston (16-4, 6-1) suffered its first loss in league play but will enter the playoffs as the conference's top seed.
Goss Kendall and Elliott Lee scored goals in the first half as Rosewood took a 2-0 lead into intermission. Five minutes into the second half, freshman Conner Adams scored the first goal of his career to push the score to 3-0.
The Panthers responded with goals by Brooks Sullivan and Garrett Stancil in the 18th and 25th minute of the second half, but Rosewood held on for the clutch win.
"It was an awesome win. We played good all the way around," Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell said. "We withstood a little flurry from them at the end to hold on."
Trevor Morris had eight saves in goal for the Eagles, who will host a Wild Card team in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday.
