Aycock juniors wins pair of road games

PIKEVILLE -- Aycock's Jay Rose struck out nine and allowed only four hits in a 3-2 win at home against Smithfield-Selma on Tuesday.
Zach Wright posted a single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, driving in the game-winning run. Wright also scored two runs and posted a double in the sixth inning.
On Monday, Aycock defeated Spring Hope at Southern Nash High School 9-2. Will Edgerton had two hits, including a double, with two RBI, while Jay Rose had two hits and drove in one run. Wright had one hit, while reaching four times and scoring three runs.
Bryant Hill picked up the win on Monday, yieling four hits and two runs in five innings of work. David Rose tossed two shutout innings of relief.
Aycock will take a 4-4 mark into Thursday's game at Snow Hill.
Costner records
ace at WCMA
During the second round of the Wayne County Men's Amateur at Walnut Creek Country Club, a Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course member, Richard Costner, aced hole number nine. Costner used a seven-iron to ace the 164-yard, par three. Costner was playing with James Ratliff and Harvey Reinhart, and it was his third career ace.
