Aycock Junior Legion suffers tough 8-inning loss

LAGRANGE -- Aycock's Zach Wright had two doubles and three RBI in Lenoir County's 6-5 win in eight innings at home over Aycock on Monday.

Joseph Toler added two hits, scored two runs and had one RBI for Aycock (1-3).

Jay Rose went seven innings and had eight strikeouts for the visitors, while David Rose picked up the loss in 2/3 innings of relief.

Lenoir County's Alex McGaughy, who had two hits, had a two-out, single in the bottom of the eighth to drive in the winning run. Jacob Alphin smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 2-1 deficit and gave Lenoir County a 3-2 edge.

Cameron Boswell delivered a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3, before Aycock went up 5-3 in the eighth when Toler and Wright provided one RBI each.

On Saturday, Aycock dropped a pair in a doubleheader at home against Cary, the defending state Junior Legion champion. Aycock lost the first game 7-3, then fell 10-3 in the second game.

In game one, Bradley Taylor tripled and scored a run, while Will Spence, Boswell and Evan Medford had one single and one RBI each.

Daniel Stancil picked up the loss in game one in three innings of work.

Will Edgerton had two hits in game two as Taylor provided a home run. Spence notched an RBI.

Brandon Price got the loss in game two. Edgerton, David Rose, Thomas Pilkington and Bryant Hill all had relief appearances during the doubleheader.

Aycock travels to Smithfield-Selma today. Game time is 7 p.m.
