Rosewood's Brantley Ellis tossed four strong innings of relief, striking out six and yielding just two hits in the Eagles' 11-5 win at home over Arendell-Parrott Academy of Kinston on Wednesday.

David Smeltzer paced Rosewood offensively with three hits, including an RBI double. The Eagles finished with 10 hits and seven stolen bases.

Rosewood improved to 2-1 and hosts Hobbton on Friday afternoon.

Goldsboro

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Jackson Massey tallied his first varsity win, yielding one hit and striking out six in three innings of work as the Golden Falcons defeated Goldsboro 17-0 on Wednesday in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference opener for both teams.

David Rose tossed the final two innings as the duo combined on a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the five-inning affair.

Will Spence and Bennett Jeffreys had two hits each with Spence driving in three and Jeffreys providing one RBI.

Travis Bartlett and Joseph Toler both slugged a home run, while Greg Davis doubled and drove in one.

Eugene Norman got both of the Cougars' hits, including one double. Monquavius Edwards got the loss on the mound for Goldsboro.

Aycock (2-0, 1-0 ECC) hosts Greene Central today. The Cougars host West Craven on Friday.

Midway one-hits

Spring Creek

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Spring Creek's Josh Lewis had the Gators' only hit in a 10-0 loss at Midway on Wednesday.

The Raiders' Josh Andrade tossed a complete game with 12 strikeouts against three walks in a one-hit shutout.

Three Spring Creek pitchers -- Devin Graves, Anthony Brogden and Timothy Rogers -- combined on a four-hitter, but the Gator defense committed six errors leading to eight unearned runs.

Josh Crumpler led Midway offensively with three RBI and two doubles.

Spring Creek (1-2) hosts South Lenoir today.

Rebels win

non-conference game

CALYPSO -- North Duplin got an improved outing from its pitching staff Wednesday night, besting visiting Dixon 11-3.

Sterling Grice picked up the win for the Rebels (2-1), going four innings, allowing no earned runs, one hit and three walks. Brad Lloyd finished out the game allowing no earned runs, two hits, five walks with five strikeouts.

Billy Mello paced North Duplin at the plate with two runs and two RBI, while Will Lewis added three hits and one RBI and Tom Bell knocked in three with one hit.

Brian Padgett and Justin Price paced Dixon with one hit each.

The Rebels will travel to Hobbton for another non-conference game today at 4 p.m.

North Lenoir

LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Brandon Sutton tossed six strong innings -- giving up only one hit with 12 strikeouts and five walks in the Hawks' 5-1 win over Wilson Beddingfield on Wednesday.

Josh Williams and Alex McGaughey had two hits each to pace the North Lenoir offense. McGaughey scored twice, drove in two and also reached base twice on walks.

Chris Jones led the Bruins at the plate with two hits, while teammate Trey Davis took the loss on the mound.

The Hawks (4-0) host Charles B. Aycock on Friday.

Tigers battle

past Pender

WARSAW -- James Kenan's Willie Barnette had three RBI, including the game-winning hit in the bottom of the sixth as the Tigers erased a 12-4 deficit in the final three innings to win 16-13 at home over Pender on Wednesday.

Matt Bass got the win in relief for Kenan, giving up just one run with five strikeouts in the last three innings.

The Tigers (3-0) travel to Jones Senior on Thursday.

Panthers shutout

Union

CLINTON -- North Johnston's Ashley Moore struck out 11 in six innings of work as the Panthers defeated Union 4-0 in Sampson County on Tuesday.

Moore gave up just one hit with one walk in picking up the win.

Josh Parrott and Josh Phillips led North Johnston at the plate with two hits each.

The Panthers (1-0) travel to Tarboro today.

Warriors sweep

West Craven

VANCEBORO -- Eastern Wayne won all eight matches contested in straight sets in an 8-0 win at West Craven on Wednesday.

Jared Stone, Drew Ziccardi, Ben Ziccardi, Alex Bryant and Drew Jackson won in singles. The doubles combinations of Stone-Drew Ziccardi, Ben Ziccardi-Bryant and Jackson-Lee Ingles all won easily in doubles.

The Warriors (3-1 overall) improved to 3-0 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference and host Goldsboro on Monday.

Kinston takes

C.B. Aycock

KINSTON -- Kinston took five of six singles matches against Charles B. Aycock at Bill Fay Park as the Vikings defeated the Falcons 6-3 on Wednesday.

At number three singles, Aycock's David Williams proved to be the lone winner for his team in singles.

Aycock rallied to win the top two doubles matches as the combinations of Danny Fairchild-Brandon Howard and Sean Kelly-Williams defeated the Vikings 8-3 and 8-0, respectively.

The Falcons (2-2, 1-1 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) host West Craven on Monday.

CBA tallies

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Shirlanne Caplinger and Lizzie Sodoma scored one goal each in the second half to help boost the Golden Falcons to a 2-1 win at home over Wilson Beddingfield on Wednesday.

The victory improves Aycock to 1-1-2 on the season as it erased a 1-0 Bruin lead at halftime.

Amanda Schlaeppi recorded an assist on Caplinger's goal.

WILSON -- Greene Central's Colby Murphy fired a 74 to help his team to a 323-384 win over Wilson Beddingfield at Happy Valley Country Club on Wednesday.

Josh Elmore added a 79 for the Rams, while teammate Brandon Jones notched an 80.

Greene Central improved to 3-1 on the year.
