SNOW HILL -- Six-time defending eastern champion Greene Central blitzed Roanoke Rapids 9-0 in the opening round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 2-A dual-team playoffs Tuesday afternoon.
The Rams (23-2) will host either unbeaten Edenton Holmes or Pittsboro Northwood at 4 p.m. next Tuesday.
Meredith Rouse, Sarah Moore, Summer Chase, Holly Mace, Christi Murphy and Ashley Harrell each posted a straight-set singles win. Rouse, Mace and Harrell each shut out their respective opponent.
"I expect leadership from my number one player and today Meredith went to work from the very first point," Greene Central coach Donald Clark said. "She played under control the entire match, and she did a great job finding openings down both lines."
Chase leads the team with 26 singles wins, followed by Mace with 25. Harrell and Murphy have 23 victories apiece.
