East Duplin nips Hawks
SNOW HILL -- East Duplin prevailed in two of three doubles matches on Wednesday to defeat North Lenoir 5-4 in a non-conferece tilt at the Snow Hill Tennis Complex.
Morgan Worthington, Rachel Sasser and Heather Phillips each claimed a singles contest for the Hawks as the two went into doubles tied at 3-3.
Number one doubles proved key as the Panthers' combination of Paten Carlton and Meredith Pierson edged Worthington and Mary-Linton Smith 9-8 in a tightly contested match.
The loss drops the Hawks to 9-9 overall heading into a Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains Conference match on Oct. 5 against Tarboro.

Rams sweep Greenfield
WILSON -- Greene Central's Ashley Harrell and Christi Murphy continued their impressive seasons with singles victories over Greenfield School as the Rams' swept the Knights 9-0 on Wednesday.
Harrell and Murphy are each 19-1 on the season.
Meredith Rouse (16-4), Sarah Moore (16-4), Summer Chase (17-3) and Holly Mace (18-1) also won singles matches for Greene Central, who improved to 18-2 on the season.
The Rams swept the doubles matches, dropping just five games to Greenfield (6-7).
Greene Central travels to North Pitt today.

Eagles drop Hawks' JV
Wayne Christian's Jennica Botonis opened the day with an 8-0 win as the Eagles defeated North Lenoir's junior varsity team 7-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
The win improved Wayne Christian to 6-2 on the season.
Bianca Wall, Mary West, Catie Fairchild and Stacy McCary all won singles contests for the Eagles, who won both doubles matches contested.
Courtney Hobbs won at number six singles for the Hawks.
