Prep tennis -- Hawks edge Tarboro

TARBORO -- North Lenoir and Tarboro battled through the lineup in a Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains Conference match on Tuesday as the Hawks emerged with a 5-4 win.
Three of the six singles matches went to three sets with North Lenoir's Mary Linton Smith, Debbie Vandiford and Ruthanne Hardy all claiming victories. The Vikings won at number one and number five singles and took two of the three doubles matches.
The combination of Morgan Worthington and Hardy won at number one doubles for the Hawks (4-4 overall), who improved to 3-3 in conference play heading into today's match at home with SouthWest Edgecombe.
