Post 11 comes from behind to top Pitt County Post 39
GREENVILLE -- Wayne County has won a lot of games this season. On Saturday, Post 11 found a new way to win -- by coming from behind.
Down 6-1 after six innings, Wayne County roared back to score six runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take a 7-6 victory over Pitt County Post 39 Saturday night at Guy Smith Stadium. The victory is Wayne County's seventh straight win and puts Post 11 at 17-3 overall and 5-1 in division play.
Philip Cunningham, who signed to play for Mount Olive College this week, came on to earn his third save of the year and his second in less than a week. Brett Butts was credited with the win -- his third of the year against no losses -- after relieving starter Ashton Langston.
Early on, Wayne County struggled with just three hits and one run in the first six innings. The lone run came from Jesse Lancaster's solo home run to lead off the fourth inning.
Airlon Vinson keyed the comeback with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Former Eastern Wayne standout and Mount Olive College player Todd MacCoy stroked a two-strike, two-run double in the eighth to tie the game, then scored the game-winning run as Vinson chopped a single to right field.
Wayne County plays in Snow Hill on Monday at Greene Central High School -- a game that has been postponed twice by rain,.
Pitt County 39 (14-3, 6-3) finishes division season toady against Pitt County 160 at Guy Smith Stadium.
A full story on this game will run in Monday's News-Argus.

Evan Cavanaugh picked up the win in 6 2/3 innings of work, giving up just two runs on six hits. Cavanaugh had seven strike outs against one walk.
Taylor Sutton got the last out of the seventh inning.
