GHS athlete takes part in Adidas meet
Goldsboro Track Club's Jacob Sykes recently competed in the Adidas Outdoor Championships, held at N.C. State University.
Sykes ran the 400 meters race in a time of 50.35 seconds, finishing eighth in his heat and 15th overall. The race was won by East Carolina signee LaShawn Merritt in meet record time, 45.38.
Sykes will join fellow GTC teammates this weekend in Greensboro for the North Carolina Association/USA Track & Field Championships.
Snow Hill
falls on road
Snow Hill's Drew Sowers connected for a solo home run as Post 94's Junior Legion team suffered a 4-2 loss at Northern Nash.
Craven Taylor suffered the loss for Snow Hill (6-6), who faces Wayne County today at home.
Lane Tree Ladies Golf
For the week ending June 20, Jelette Culbreth won low net and game-of-the-week. Carol Lane and Gwen Kelly tied for low putts.
Babe Ruth 16-19
C.B. Aycock 11, Pine Level 2 -- Josh Narron doubled twice for Aycock, while Paul Price and Tyler Mills had one double each. Billy McKinley picked up the win, tossing a three-hitte with nine strike outs. Aycock faces North Johnston on Friday.
Babe Ruth 14-15
Spring Creek 17, Goldsboro 3 -- Spring Creek improved to 8-4 on the season as Alex Casey batted 3-4 with a double, while Dustin Wood was 2-3 with a double. John Kelly picked up the win on the mound.
