PIKEVILLE -- Bradley Taylor ripped a three-run home run as Aycock rolled past West Craven 9-2 in an American Junior Legion Baseball non-division game Friday evening at Charles B. Aycock.
Taylor, who hit his home run in the fourth inning, finished the evening with three hits and four RBI in four plate appearances. He was one of three Aycock batters to turn in a multiple-hit performance.
Bennett Jeffreys doubled in a 2-for-3 effort. Derek Lancaster batted 2-for-4.
Thomas Pilkington went 1-for-1, drew two walks and scored three runs.
Brandon Price emerged the winning pitcher, scattering four hits in a five-inning stint. Grant Sasser threw a perfect sixth and seventh, striking out all six batters he faced.
The two teams endured a pair of one-hour delays due to the umpires arriving late and lightning that accompanied a storm.
Aycock (8-2, 4-2) entertains Wilson at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Snow Hill turns triple play
SNOW HILL -- Jordan Corbett picked up a save in thrilling fashion Saturday evening against Lenoir County in American Junior Legion Baseball action.
With runners at first and second, and no outs, a Lenoir County batter attempted a bunt. He popped the ball into the air and Corbett caught it on the line.
Lenoir County's runners got hung up between second and third, prompting a throw from Corbett to shortstop Hunter Chase. Chase recorded the second out and threw to Drew Sowers at first to complete the rarest feat in baseball.
Corbett threw two-thirds of an inning in relief of starter Corey Skinner. Skinner allowed one earned run on six hits and notched two strikeouts in six-plus innings.
Richie Turner paced Snow Hill's offense with three hits, including a double.
Snow Hill (6-5) travels to Northern Nash for a 6 p.m. contest today.
