K-Tribe sweeps twinball for fifth straight win

KINSTON -- Now this is more like it.

After losing three in a row at home for the first time all year, the Kinston Indians have won five in a row at the friendly confines of Grainger Stadium. The latest two wins came in a doubleheader sweep of the Potomac Cannons Tuesday, by scores of 4-2 in game one and 5-4 in eight innings in game two in front of 2,015 fans.

The Tribe now stands a season-high 21 games over .500 at 36-15, while Potomac has fallen back to the .500 mark at 26-26. Kinston is also 24-7 at home, a .774 winning percentage.

Caleb Brock and Eider Torres both hit their first home runs of the year in the opening game. J.D. Martin got the win and improved to 5-4, scattering two runs and eight hits in 5.2 innings. Eisentrager's four-out save was his first of the year.

The Indians jumped ahead early again in game two, using an RBI double by Michael Aubrey in the first and a towering solo home run from Jonathan van Every in the second for a quick 2-0 advantage.

Nathan Panther singled over a drawn-in outfield for the game-winning base hit. That made a winner out of Cooper (2-3), who allowed just one hit in 2.2 shutout innings.

Chuy Mendoza lost for the second straight night and fell to 1-4.

After sweeping the doubleheader, Kinston will now look to sweep the four-game series from Potomac with the finale tonight at 7 p.m.
