TARBORO -- Spring Creek defeated Tarboro in 13 of 15 matches contested in a double-header on Wednesday and came away with two wins against the Vikings in Classes 2-A Eastern Plains/1-A Carolina Conference play.
The Gators (13-2 overall), who have clinched the top 1-A seed for the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs, improved to 12-2 against league foes.
Will Daniel, Cliff Wilson, Grey Wilson, Ricky Galloway and Justin Smith all won twice for Spring Creek in singles play and seemed to improve during the afternoon's second match.
"I think the first match we tried to rush through and get on to the second match," Spring Creek coach Robert Jones said. The second match we were a little more patient and hit shots we knew we could hit.
"We are just trying to get tuned up for dual teams and the conference tournament."
The Gators return to action today at Farmville Central before the conference tourney begins May 3 and 4 at the Greene Central Tennis Complex.
