Track -- Eastern Wayne teams sweep Kinston, West Craven

Michael Lawerence earned a pair of first-place finishers, staking the Eastern Wayne boys' track team to a sweep of West Craven and Kinston in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference meet Thursday afternoon in New Hope.
Lawerence ran the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes, 59 seconds. He took the 800 in 2:15 as the Warriors piled up 87 points. West Craven and Kinston tied for second with 63.
Sean Villaneuva, Chris Campbell, Matt Smith, Keone Davis, Trey Royster and Matt Interrante each claimed an individual win.
The Warriors also captured the 3,200 relay.
Shelly Baker, Sade Baker and Jamie Vogt each seized two individual events as the Warrior girls knocked off the Eagles 86-39. Kinston was third with 32 on the Little Big Horn track.
Shelly Baker, one of the area's top sprinters, won the 100 hurdles in 17.1 and 300 low hurdles in 55.6. Sade dominated the field events in the discus (82 feet, 7 inches) and shot put (30-8).
Vogt, as usual, experienced success in the long-distance runs by claiming the 1,600 and 3,200.
Eastern Wayne also received individual wins from Erin Acree (pole vault), April Vinson (800) and Eugenia Baker (200).
The Warriors (13-4, 9-1 ECC) won three relays.
