TARBORO -- Rosewood's Erin Thibodeau turned in a hat-trick (three goals) as the Lady Eagles claimed a 5-1 win at Tarboro on Monday.

Rosewood (11-2 overall) improved to 7-1 in the Classes 2-A Eastern Plains/1-A Carolina/Super-Six heading into Wednesday's match at James Kenan.

On an assist from Kerry Garner, Thibodeau scored Rosewood's only goal of the first half near the 20 minute mark as the score stood tied at 1-1 at halftime.

At the 50:30 mark of the second half, Stephanie Behrend started the scoring in the second before dishing out back-to-back assists to Thibodeau to help her complete the hat-trick.

Clare Narron capped the scoring with 13 minutes left on a pass from Thibodeau.

"We started off a little slow, spring break seems to do that us. We came alive in the second half and looked much better," Rosewood assistant coach Brian Brewer said.

CBA falls

in overtime

WASHINGTON -- Seven minutes into the first half of overtime, Washington tallied the only goal of the game as the Pam Pack emerged with a 1-0 win over Charles B. Aycock on Monday.

The loss drops the second-place Golden Falcons (9-4 overall) to 6-2 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference.

Aycock had a penalty kick in the second half of overtime but could not convert after outshooting Washington 7-3 in the second half.

"We controlled the game, but they got a breakaway in the first overtime and that was it," Aycock coach John Fidler said. "We may have played the best game we have played all year.

"The girls were hurt by it, but the caliber of play was outstanding."

The Golden Falcons travel to league-leading West Carteret on Wednesday.

Maloney posts

four goals

LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Katie Maloney scored four times -- three on assists from Haley Bright -- as the Hawks defeated SouthWest Edgecombe 5-0 on Monday.

North Lenoir (12-0-1 overall) improved to 7-0 in the Classes 2-A Eastern Plains Conference/1-A Carolina/Super-Six heading into Wednesday's match at North Johnston.

Maloney recorded a natural hat-trick (three-straight goals) in the first half with all three goals coming on assists from Bright.

In the second half, Maloney returned the favor on an assist to Bright, before scoring her fourth goal on a pass from Elizabeth Foye.

Panthers rally

KENLY -- North Johnston trailed James Kenan 2-1 at halftime before scoring four goals during a 14-minute span of the second half to win 5-2 over the Tigers.

The win avenges a loss earlier in the season to James Kenan as both teams are now tied for third place at 5-3 in the Classes 2-A Eastern Plains/1-A Carolina/Super-Six.

Jenna Gudac opened the second-half scoring for North Johnston with a goal on an assist from Martha Godwin, who scored the Panthers' lone goal of the first half.

Gudac wedged her 19th goal of the season between scores by Stefanie Jones and Christina Strickland as the Panthers quickly pulled away.

Gudac added two assists, while Heather Creech dished out one.

North Johnston (8-7 overall) allowed no shots in the second half and outshot the Tigers (5-6 overall) 21-6 on the game.

The Panthers host league-unbeaten North Lenoir on Wednesday.

EW tops Kinston

Eastern Wayne's Katelyn Swayne and Melinda Gilmore had one goal each to lead the Warriors to a 2-1 win at home over Kinston on Monday.

Hope Newell had four saves in the goal for the Warriors.

Eastern Wayne (2-3 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) travels to Wilson Fike today at 5 p.m. in non-conference play.
