Baseball -- CBA dominates Beddingfield

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's battery did most of the damage Thursday afternoon as Philip Cunningham and Bennett Jeffreys teamed up to lead the Golden Falcons past Wilson Beddingfield 4-1 at the Bruins diamond.

After giving up one run in the first inning, Cunningham settled in and struck out 12 hitters, giving up only one more hits en route to his sixth victory of the year. Both hits were infield singles and only two balls left the infield all night.

Jeffreys, a sophomore, went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to pace Aycock's nine-hit attack. In addition, Aycock coach Charles Davis cited Jeffreys for his defensive work behind the plate. Matthew Waddell was 2-for-3, the only other Aycock batter with more than one hit.

The Falcons (9-5, 5-4) will meet Beddingfield again tonight in Pikeville.

North Johnston outlasts Beddingfield

in 11 innings

WILSON -- It took 11 innings before North Johnston's Amanda Pope scored on Brandy Edwards' single to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 win over Wilson Beddingfield Thursday at the Bruins' diamond.

North Johnston's two-out, extra-inning rally proved to be the difference, as both teams had chances to score runs throughout the game. The Lady Panthers (14-1, 6-0) were able to get just three runners on base in the first seven innings, with Hannah Ellis and Candace Evans both thrown out at home -- Ellis in the seventh and Evans in the 10th.

Beddingfield left runners on third base in the fourth, seventh and 10th innings, and the Lady Bruins (4-10, 2-1) left runners at second in the third, ninth and tenth innings.

North Johnston's winning pitcher, Candace Evans, struck out eight, as did Beddingfield's Ana Cooke. Only North Johnston's Ellis and Beddingfield's Ashley Bohne had more than one hit, with both players going 2-for-4.

North Johnson will travel to Wilson Hunt on Tuesday for the final non-conference game on the Lady Panthers' schedule.

Northwest Majors 6, Northeast 5 -- Northwest came back from a 5-0 deficit to win. Justin Lewis was the winning pitcher and went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Aaron Champion had a pair of RBI. Miles Claiborne and Mick Walker also drive in runs for Northwest, who takes on Eastern Waynwe Blue on Monday.
