PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock goalie Emily Stewart had eight saves, while forward Mary Beth Hooks tallied a natural hat-trick (three-straight goals) to lead the Golden Falcons to a 6-0 win at home over Kinston on Wednesday.

Aycock coach John Fidler praised Stewart for a solid game, especially in the first half.

"Emily did a great job in the first half. We gave away some breakaways in the beginning and she turned them all away," Fidler said.

The win improves Aycock (9-3 overall) to 6-1 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference, good for second place going into spring break. The Falcons return to action on April 19 at Washington.

Nicole Taylor, who also dished out an assist in the second half, scored on assist from Hooks to open the scoring in the 24th minute, while Lizzie Sodoma took a pass from Jessy Lamb and scored late in the first half.

After halftime, Hooks scored three-straight times with goals in the 47th, 61st and 67th minute.

Angela Cecil added the final goal late in the game.

Missing two defensive starters and senior center midfielder Christie Milleson, Fidler applauded Rachel Coggins and Brandy Marriner for their defensive efforts.
