Runners from across the region, state and the country are registering for North Carolina's second oldest road race, the 26th Annual Sunrise Kiwanis Greater Goldsboro Road Run.
The Road Run is held in conjunction with the city's De-Rail-a-Bration family festival on Saturday, April 3. The event includes a 5k walk beginning at 8:30 a.m., a 5k run beginning at 8:30 a.m., a 10k run beginning at 9:30 a.m. and a mile "family fun run" beginning at 9:45 a.m.
Race prizes for the 5k Run and 10k Run male and female overall finishers include: $100 cash for first place, $50 cash for second place, and $25 cash for third. Awards are also given to the first three male and female finishers in each age category for the 5k run and 10k run. First place winners, male and female, in the 5k walk will each receive a medallion. All child participants in the 1 mile fun run will receive a medallion.
All proceeds from entry fees and corporate sponsorship go to Sunrise Kiwanis for use in community projects and college scholarships. The race is part of the Eastern NC Corporation Road Race Series, and is TAC-certified.
Participants are asked to register prior to April 1. However, participants may also register the day of the event from 7 to 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church on the corner of Chestnut and John Streets. Registration may be done in person at Athlete's Choice in Berkeley Mall and New Century Bank on Spence Avenue, both of which are located in Goldsboro. Participants may also download a registration form from the Sunrise Kiwanis website at www.sunriseliwanisonlie.org.
The 5K race is part of the Eastern Carolina Corporate Road Race Series. Teams will consist of three to five members with the first three finishers on each team counting in the scoring. All team members must work for the same employer and an employer may enter more than one team. All team members must register as an individual and then register as a team. Team registration will begin Saturday morning at 7 a.m. and will continue until the start of the 5K.
There is no additional fee for team registration; all team members are also eligible for individual awards. Awards will be presented to the top three teams in each of the following divisions: Open, Female and Male masters. Team trophies will be given to first, second and third place teams.
