Tennis -- Warriors knock off West Craven

VANCEBORO -- Eastern Wayne swept the doubles and dumped West Craven 7-2 in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match Thursday afternoon.
The No. 1 tandem of James Arceneaux-Ben Ziccardi eased past the Eagles' Ross Warren-Raymond Warren 8-3. Alex Bryant-John King, the Warriors' No. 2 doubles, belted A.J. Hardison-Jenna Willis 8-1. Andrew Smith-Chris Musser picked up their second straight win at No. 3 doubles with an 8-1 decision against Aaron Williams-Megan Abbott.
"That's the first time in a long time," Warriors coach Nancy Dawson said of the sweep. "The guys are improving with each match."
Arceneaux, Ziccardi, Smith and King each prevailed in singles.
Eastern Wayne (1-3, 1-2 ECC) entertains New Bern next Monday afternoon.
