Gudac tallies 4 goals for N. Johnston

PINETOPS -- Jenna Gudac registered the hat trick-plus-one (four goals) as North Johnston romped past SouthWest Edgecombe 6-0 in a Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Super Six/Eastern Plains Conference match Thursday evening.
Gudac scored the Panthers' lone goal in the 24th minute. She added three second-half goals in a five-minute stretch. Sophomore Stephanie Jones and senior forward Martha Godwin each recorded an assist.
Sophomore Allison Hinnant, who earned the shutout in goal, converted a penalty kick in the 46th minute to give North Johnston a commanding five-goal lead.
Junior forward Christina Strickland finished the scoring in the 59th minute. Freshman midfielder Brittany Lane notched her first assist of the season on the play.
SouthWest goalie Hope Tharrington stopped 11 of North Johnston's 23 shots.
Hinnant saved the Cougars' lone shot on goal.
North Johnston (1-1, 1-1 C/SS/EPC) returns to action next Tuesday in the inaugural Wilson Daily Times Cup. The Panthers face Wilson Beddingfield at 5 p.m. at Hunt High School.
SouthWest fell to 0-1-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Middle schools
Frink 7, Woodington 0 -- Frink's Mohamed Ali, Sasha Holeman and Michael Jones scored two goals each, while Sean Anglin scored once. Frink (1-0) visits Greene County March 8 at 4 p.m.
