Wayne Country Day put the finishing touches on a solid regular season with a convincing 63-28 win at home over Faith Christian of Rocky Mount.
The Chargers, who were led by an 18-point effort by Spenser Briggs, will take on Greenfield School on Friday at Kerr-Vance to open the Coastal Plains Independent Conference 1-A Tournament.
Wayne Country Day (13-6 overall) finished 5-3 in conference play and will enter the tournament as the third seed.
Kevin Logan added 11 points in the win, including three, three-pointers, while Oscar Ball chipped in 11 points as well. Kris Exum pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked five shots in a strong performance in the paint. The Chargers knocked down eight three's as a team.

Saint boys close out
with win Thursday
VANCEBORO -- Southern Wayne's boys ended the regular-season by knocking off Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival West Craven 50-46 on Thursday night. The victory locked up fourth place for the Saints, who will make the state 3-A playoffs after the ECC tournament next week.
Guard Austin Hood led the team with 19 points, buoyed by five three-point baskets. Justin Monroe came on in relief of center Artimus Quick, who had foul trouble. Monroe had seven rebounds and five points.
The Saints take on West Craven again Tuesday in a first-round tournament game in Dudley.

SNOW HILL -- Teddy Waters led the Greene Central boys basketball team with a game-high 22 points Friday night, but the Rams fell to South Lenoir 73-65.
Junior Kesselbach scored 13 for Greene Central, with Charles Gamble adding 11 and Kenny Smith 10.
The Rams (11-13, 5-5) will host SouthWest Edgecombe Monday at 8 p.m. in the first round of the the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference tournament.

cruise past Tarboro
North Lenoir's boys used a big run to open the second half and cruised to an 83-64 victory over Tarboro.
The Vikings trailed by just five points at halftime, but the Hawks (19-4, 8-2) came out of the break with a 17-2 run and held a double-digit lead for all but a few seconds of the second half.
North Lenoir's Leon Best led all scorers with 27 points, while Justin Dunn added 26 points.
The Vikings (4-18, 1-9) will play third-seed South Lenoir in the opening round of the conference tournament Tuesday in Deep Run.

Chargers in win
Wayne Country Day's Brian Brock poured in 26 points as Wayne Country Day dropped Faith Christian of Rocky Mount 62-34 at home on Friday.
The win capped an undefeated Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference season for the Chargers (12-4 overall) as they finished at 8-0.
Chad Roberson added 13 points, while Lamar Carpenter provided 11 points in Friday's win.
The Chargers will open up the CPIC Tournament at Kerr-Vance against either Rocky Mount Academy or Faith Christian of Rocky Mount.
Middle Schools
WCDS 42, Faith-Rocky Mount16 -- Cameron Strickland scored 16 points for the Chargers, who finished 8-0 in Coastal Plains Independent Conference 1-A play for the first time in school history. Tyler Pate added eight points in the win for Wayne Country Day (8-3 overall).
