ROCKY MOUNT -- A second-quarter coaching move sparked Wayne Country Day to a come-from-behind 56-53 victory against Rocky Mount Academy in Class 1-A Coastal Plains Independent Conference action Thursday evening.
Displeased with his starters' effort, Chargers coach Steve Weir put them on the bench and called on some junior varsity reserves. The youngsters responded with a 13-7 spurt to force a 25-25 tie at halftime.
Brian Brock collected all six of his points and snared four rebounds during that four-minute stretch. Phillip Weeks picked the Eagles' pockets for two steals, Shadow Stewart grabbed four rebounds and Travis Davis tallied three points.
Lone senior Shivar Person also stayed on the court during that period.
Spenser Briggs emerged the Chargers' top scorer with 22 points. Chris Exum contributed nine, while Oscar Ball chipped in six.
Wayne Country Day (12-6) climbed to 4-3 in the CPIC. Weir's team concludes regular-season play at home today against Faith Christian of Rocky Mount.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day won back-to-back games for the first time in league play this season after dealing Rocky Mount Academy a 50-23 loss in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A action Thursday.
The Chargers (6-12) escaped the league cellar and climbed to 2-5 heading into today's final home game against Faith Christian of Rocky Mount.
Carolyn Ziemer paced Wayne Country Day's offense with a game-high 18 points. Teammate Hannah Grantham added 10.
