LITTLEFIELD -- Sierra Ward drained two free throws with 10 seconds remaining as North Duplin slipped past Ayden-Grifton 49-47 in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference encounter Tuesday.
Ward finished with a team-high 16 points as the Rebels rose to 3-7 in the conference and 4-11 overall. They continue league play Friday at Farmville Central.
Keke Pugh led the Chargers with 19.

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Cassandra Worrell and Lela Reid scored 13 points each as the Lady Golden Falcons snapped a two-game losing streak with a 40-30 win against West Carteret in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference on Tuesday.
"I think getting back in the gym and getting back on a regular routine helps more than anything," Aycock coach Gary Hales said. "It still wasn't our best game, but we played hard for 32 minutes and that makes a difference."
Aycock (14-5, 9-4 ECC) travels to South Central on Friday.

DUDLEY -- Three Southern Wayne girls scored in double figures as the Saints claimed a 47-39 win at home over Washington on Wednesday.
Dionne Dotson led the way with 13 points to go with solid play at the point guard spot. Tiffany Swinson added 11 points, while Jessica Teachey chipped in 10.
The Saints (4-15 overall) improved to 4-9 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play.
"We played 32 complete minutes. It was a good team win," Southern Wayne coach Richard Proctor said.
Shelonda Smith pulled down 12 rebounds for the Saints.

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek's Shondalyn Rogers continued her impressive season with 17 points in a 91-33 loss at home to Farmville Central on Wednesday.
The loss drops the Gators to 8-12 overall and 5-4 in Carolina 1-A play heading into a rematch at Farmville on Thursday.
The Jaguars' sister tandem of Megan and Kim Zullo combined for 51 points in the loss as Megan scored 31 and Kim added 20. Nicole Hamill added 12, while Natsuki Amano contribed 11.
Shantell Patterson pulled down 10 rebounds for Spring Creek.

Eagles still
unbeaten in CCC
WILSON -- Jennica Botonis came within a point of earning a double-double as Wayne Christian doubled up Community Christian 63-31 in a Carolina Christian 1-A game Tuesday.
Botonis tallied nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Eagles, who remained unbeaten in nine CCC outings. They conclude the home portion of their schedule Friday against Norlina Christian.
Alicia Chong emerged Wayne Christian's top scorer with 16 points and Ashley Longwell added 10. Each had seven rebounds.
The Cyclones benefited in the opening half when Longwell missed most of the action with four fouls.
However, the Eagles (12-9) turned up their offense in the second half. They outscored Community 49-15 and put a season-high 32 points on the board in the final quarter.
Mary Bunn led the Cyclones with a game-high 17 points.
