RALEIGH -- Seven Southern Wayne wrestlers finished the day unbeaten as the Saints captured three victories in the Millbrook Quads contested Friday at Millbrook High School.
Mastafa Springston, Stephen Witt, Reggie Faire, Josh Richards, Jonathan McKinney, Kevin Hash and Thomas Mosshammer each sported a 3-0 record by day's end.
Southern Wayne defeated Raleigh Enloe 45-33, host Millbrook 48-34 and concluded the day with a 53-33 trouncing of Southern Durham.
"It's the first time we've ever won a match at the Millbrook Quads," Saints coach David Lee said.
Springston notched three pins and spent less than five minutes total on the mat. Hash earned two pins and a forfeit; while Witt recorded two pins and a decision.
Faire and Richards each collected three pins.
Thomas Mosshammer, ranked among the state's top 10 in his weight class at 130, earned two pins and a forfeit.
"We wrestled well ... came out aggressive after losing against West Carteret," Lee said. "We challenged the guys to go after it, not wait. They were aggressive with the takedowns and when they got on the mat, they were aggressive working for pins and escapes.
"Overall, it's the best we've wrestled all year."
The Saints (13-8) conclude their Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference slate next Tuesday at South Central. A win assures them of the league's No. 3 seed and a first-round match against Manteo in the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs.
